History

The history of Scalia Group dates back to 1886, when Carmel Scalia inaugurated the first factory of children's footwear. In 1890, production began to move towards the world of leather goods, a sector destined to become the heart of the company.

The climate of instability of the early twentieth century and the approach of the First World War did not dampen the Scalias' desire for enterprise, who in fact began to export to Southern Italy: between the two wars, under the guidance of Giovanni Scalia , the family became a point of reference in leather goods in Sicily and Southern Italy, expanding its trade further and further North also through the import and distribution of leather.

Scalia via Marchese di Villabianca

At the end of the 1950s the activity began to take on an increasingly complete and structured character, under the guidance of Giuseppe Scalia , son of the leather merchant. Born in 1971 the sales point in via Marchese di Villabianca , still today a point of reference for leather goods in Palermo, and the opening of the first footwear shops also took place in the 1970s.

The process of expansion of the structure began immediately, reaching its peak in the twenty-year period 1970-90 when the Scalia family could boast its presence in all phases of the value chain in the footwear sector in Sicily:

• production (a factory)
• intermediation (two wholesalers)
• sales (various retail outlets)

In the 2000s the door opened to a new direction of development, with the inauguration of a new point of sale in Viale Strasburgo , thus creating a new reference for leather goods in the new emerging commercial area of Palermo.

In 2011, the presence in the leather goods sector was expanded thanks to the acquisition and opening of three new sales outlets located in strategic areas: of particular note is the opening of Scalia Bags in the prestigious setting of Palazzo Briuccia in via Libertà, one of the most famous areas for luxury shopping in the city; the sales outlet, which enjoys a splendid view of the Politeama Theatre and of Piazza Castelnuovo , deals with brands of excellence such as The Bridge , Samsonite , Piquadro And Ladybugs .

2011 is a crucial year for the Scalia family, who decides to unite by developing the new and common brand Scalia Group pooling the skills acquired by the various souls of the family to provide more and more services to customers. The creation of Scalia Group starts a process of managerialization of the company that, while not neglecting the historical values of the leather goods tradition in Palermo, opens up to the new challenges of modernity and innovation.

In 2012 the development process continues with the opening of The Bridge Store in Viale Strasburgo, a single-brand store that strengthens the precious partnership with The Bridge in Palermo; two years later The Bridge Store is merged with the adjacent one Scalia Bags , creating a single point of sale capable of offering customers a wide range of high quality leather goods.

In 2013, among the challenges of the new year, the entry into the online sales sector stands out with the opening of an e-commerce site: scaliagroup.com . Reconciling tradition with modernity is in fact one of the main strengths of Scalia Group, making its leather goods tradition in Sicily accessible even outside the regional borders.

Attention to customer needs and the choice of high-quality products have determined not only the longevity of the company in a period of economic crisis, but even the creation of a leading corporate group in Palermo in the sale of leather goods, luggage, bags, footwear and high-end accessories, proceeding with determination towards the achievement of new, increasingly ambitious goals.

Today Scalia Group boasts four traditional stores to which is added the new virtual store, a sign of the dynamism that has characterized the company since its origins.
